Are there situations where an interim upgrade is required? From this KB it seems that 3.71 to 2016 is possible. I can't recall specifics but seems as if there were a couple situations (possibly with SQL version) where you could not go direct to 2016. via the Sage KB: There are 3 primary steps to getting your data up and running. These steps must be performed in the order listed. Your data must be on a minimum level of 3.71 in order to migrate to Sage 100 ERP 4.40 and later. It is not necessary to upgrade incrementally, even data that is 3.71 can be Migrated to the 2016 Version.

For Sage 100 standard and advances no extra upgrades are required. If you are upgrading to premium as you noted you need this upgrade to a current version 4.4 or above and then you can convert to premium.

For 3.74 SQL to 5.3 Premium there are three upgrades required. I am preparing one now to perform the live conversion over the fourth of July holiday. For 3.74 SQL you need the upgrade tool available from Sage (I believe originally developed by DSD). The upgrade tool converts 3.74 SQL to 3.71 ProvideX. Then convert 3.71 ProvideX to 4.5 (or 4.4) ProvideX. Finally Convert 4.5 ProvideX to 5.3 Premium. Test and verify data after each conversion and pray nothing goes awry!

Any reason you can't go to 2015 Pvx then 2016 SQL

2015 Pvx to 2016 SQL works great. I have performed the 2015 Pvx to 2016 SQL upgrade several times. It is straightforward. Install SQL, install Sage 2016 Premium, then convert the data the same as usual. The only advice I would give is when prompted for a SQL user name and password during the Sage Premium installation, use the SQL ""sa"" user name and password. The SQL sa user is the SQL pre-installed system administrator password and has sysadmin privileges. I have tried creating a new SQL user and assigned sysadmin privileges to the new user yet get a permissions error during installation. I recommend always using the sa logon to rule out any permissions issues.

We had a client that went from 4.2 to 2013. They had a couple of Paperless Office enhancements. When we ran into Paperless conversion issues, I leaned that we should have gone to 4.3 first. Also, we had a 4.05 to 2015 upgrade with a client that owns ACS's Property Management. We needed to go to 4.3 first.
