Are The Sage KB Entries Just Crazy Bad? Me: Yes

  • 1.  Are The Sage KB Entries Just Crazy Bad? Me: Yes

Are the inmates running the asylum?

Here's what just triggered me ( Sage KB 117414

How does this KB not refer to the version and pu to which the issue was reported? I acknowledge that Sage might not know EVERY version/PU to which this applies but they most certainly know the Version and PU that this was initially reported on. Why not include this in the KB?

Business reason that including the version/PU makes sense:
    • Allows VARS to proactively contact customers
    • Allows customer to self-service using the Sage KB to determine whether they need to keep an eye on this issue

And this lack of noting the reported version isn't limited to just one or two Sage KB articles. It's a problem across nearly the entire KB.

And if Sage thinks this applies across all versions - why not say so?

And how is this an acceptable workaround for PDF files from separate print jobs merge together when printing to Paperless Office in a Terminal Server environment

Specifically the below info which maybe works for a 2 or 3 person office ( who BTW have largely been price out of Sage 100 ) but when you have a 30 to 40 user distribution company using Sage 100 ( IMO, Sage 100's core market ) the workaround is really unacceptable. And I don't think workaround #2 is suitable for Sage Partner Cloud or any type of Cloud Hosting of Sage 100:

    Additional information

    <content>

The "Use Lockfile" feature is designed for multi-user environments so this type of behavior does not occur.

However, in a few instances, the "Use Lockfile" feature may not be enough. In such a situation, consider:

    1. Waiting for a Paperless PDF print run (of any kind, in any application module for any company code) to complete, before starting another run (of any kind, in any application module, for any company code - even in another company).
    2. If desirous of the ability to have multiple users generate Paperless PDF print runs at the same time, consider using workstations with local installations of Workstation Setup, rather than the shared client install used by all Citrix or Windows Terminal Services users.

This topic should be on the list of topics for the next Sage Roundtable or for MOTM.  Also, someone at Sage should edit the posts for spelling & grammar (my local newspaper should do the same, btw).

I raised this issue at MOTM about 3-4 years ago, and while the message was well received at the time, the revolving-door-staff issues at Sage had that person gone in short order.  Translation: nothing done.

Have you shared your concerns on Sage City?  This seems to be way to get their attention.  I agree.  It should be noted which versions are in play....

Like Kevin, I've shared and requested that Sage make these types of improvements at just about every chance I get. I remember meeting with several of the Sage knowledgebase team back when we used to have Sage Summit several years ago and they looked at me like they had no clue what I was talking about. Of course, that should have been the first clue that there was an issue.

The poor categorization of the KB and the inability to use Safari based browsers to fully access the KB are my two big pet peeves. I can't believe that the browser issue hasn't been fixed ( the issue is that doing a search with a Safari based browser will provide an error once you try to look at page 2+ of the search results ).

There have been a few complaints posted in Sage City's Partners section... some dating back years, with no real improvements.

Partners Section????  How is this any different than bringing it up directly with Sage?  I am talking about the suburbs where the actual users hang out.

It's different because there is a visible record of what their reply was... which we can use to shame them later.  We can also use less polite language since customers / the public can't see our rants against Sage.
