Are ""request our whitepaper"" promotions working? I see these on a lot of websites and my first thought is ""oh great I have to give my personal information and I'll either be on a mailing list or have a salesperson calling"". Yes you can give phony info - but I just usually stop short of requesting these whitepapers because I also feel like it's mostly going to be a marketing piece vs informational. Anyone doing these with success? Anyone stop doing them? Other?

I also do not fill in my info and forgo getting the white paper. The times I have gone through the process I have had an e-mail or call from sales. We don't have these types of documents on our website, but plan to. If people hesitate to download because they want to remain anonymous, I would rather have them read the whitepaper with our contact information on it than not and forget we exist. I would be interested to see what marketing experts say about this.

I get a handful, but don't count on them unless they are extremely compelling. Offering something like '50 tips & tricks' however works and I set up autoresponders (which mailchimp sucks at compared to aweber FWIW. The most valuable method is firewalling alot of videos, after offering a few free. but creating original consistent content is painful and time consuming.

Mark what's the conversion ratio for people requesting free information ? I think there are a lot more people browsing vs inquiring these days (I could be wrong) and I also think the market online is quite crowded with so many sites seeming to offer very similar type content to those who request it.

I don't even track it. All I know is I have about 5000 contacts of NAV & Epicor end users and they are hearing from me via tips, tricks, video updates and if they have a need that bubbles up we are getting a shot. We've definitely have current 'at bats' and new orphan clients from this, but its no million dollar answer. I honestly don't think its the marketing method, its the shitty state of the ERP market
