APS and SPS Our first customer has changed over their credit card processing from SPS to APS this week. Note that termination fees apply for SPS at a rate of $25 times months remaining on contract. For one of their entities it was $750. APS had indicated they could help cover these costs, so it may not be a big issue. What is frustrating to the customers (and us) is we were informed when PC Charge went away that SPS was the only option for integrated processing. We were also told that rates would be lower than other processors. The reality is that rates increased and various fees were charged (which APS does not charge), so SPS was no longer competitive. On top of that to charge a termination fee, even if in the contract, carries a big negative in terms of Sage's image. They are a large Sage 100 user, but apparently that doesn't count when dealing with SPS.

I moved our in-house account to APS about a month ago and have moved 1 PC Charge client who just upgraded. So far, I have been happy with their service and support.

Even if the customer has to pay the entire termination fee, the savings in rates and other fees will be made up very quickly using APS. SPS seems to be guilty of bait and switch in many cases, although they would counter that it's all in the contract. Each of these connected services that are wholly owned by Sage need to understand where most of the dollars are coming from in terms of customer payments to Sage - maintenance renewals and additional users/modules. SPS seems to have learned how to act superior from the FAS and ABRA groups.

@DianaLaughner what are the initial and monthly fees for APS? I've been using PayPal VT and they get me for $30/month which is I find a trend with a lot of processors. I try to avoid credit cards when possible.

Paul Bridgewater is the CEO of payments - likely the person who can answer these SPS questions

And this is another reason why Sage should be holding onto their channel. All the various add-ons to be sold and integrated. The farther partners are from selling Sage solutions the more likely I think that they recommend non-Sage integrations. I think soon Sage will figure this out.

I haven't received my first statement from them, I'll post back fees when I do. the one thing I really liked was that they take care of the PCI Compliance cost and the questions were minimal to get this renewed.
