Anyone using AI?

  • 1.  Anyone using AI?

    Posted 06-07-2023 09:43

    Hi all!

@Wayne Schulz posed a great MOTM '24 idea about ChatGPT & AI, and it got us thinking on the Education Committe... who all is using AI today. With that, I wanted to ask a few questions:

    1. Who is using AI?
    2. Which tools are you using?
    3. Why did you start using them?
    4. How are you using each tool?

Additionally - for those NOT using AI (ChatGPT, Bard, or even image generation like Midjourney) - why haven't you dipped a toe in the AI pond?

Thanks in advance to those that participate!

I am going to use ChatGPT because my marketing guy showed it to me by typing in "why should a company do business with ACI Consulting" and I was amazed and then he re did it and asked for a more concise article

So at least for starters we will use it for more blogs

    Thank you,

I use it primarily for faster rewriting of something already written. It works well for creating summaries or bullet points.

I have found that it can very confidently be wrong. If you have some time and want to test this out - ask either Bard or ChatGPT to create a summary of the history of State of the Art Accounting software originally located in Irvine, CA.  I've done this probably 6-8 times, and almost every time it tells me about a completely different founder(s) ( whose name(s) I don't recognize ) or says the company is still in existence and proudly publishing MAS 90.

    More specifically:

    1. I use AI mostly for writing and summarizing
    2. ChatGPT primarily ( paid )
    3. I got curious and then found that they could rewrite headlines and content and create summaries very quickly. This type of work requires very little fact checking so I'm much more confident in using them for this purpose.
    4. Writing, some minor creation of Crystal Formulas, I've used them to create "boring" pieces of blog posts (  ie - give me a background summary of what TLS is ) that in the past I might have used Wikipedia for

I wonder if will replace Sage tech support.

I attended a tech conference sponsored by the Iowa CPA Society.  The K2 Enterprise presenters were keen on the potential of it.  Their presentations focused on the marketing potential in the short term.  Who knows where it will be next year?  I am glad I am not in marketing!!!

When will they come for my job?

Will we ever make a tech advance that doesn't make it easier to create and spread disinformation than actual truth?...of course marketing is the first use...

We know the rubber does NOT meet the road with marketing.......  But hey, it does SELL new installs.

IMHO, AI is (at best) half-baked at the current point in time.  That's fine for some purposes (like entertainment and marketing...) but not for what I do.  If I ever get stuck on something, I might give it a try looking for ideas, but I'd never actually trust the results without reviewing them properly.

Trust AI now at your own peril: link.

Here's an example from Bard and one reason why I've been skeptical about using AI for specific questions. I will admit that the experience of asking questions to AI is FAR superior to the experience of using Google's search which is somewhat of a cesspool of ads, SEO gaming website, ads and SEO gaming websites.

I've messed around with ChatGPT (free option at OpenAI.com), and it's been a mixed bag of good information and questionable information (disinformation, misinformation, theories, lies, etc.)  I agree with Wayne that it certainly beats Google searches if you are trying to get a quick summary on a topic.  However, you better read the results before you copy/paste/share.

I think AI's potential for automation and robotics in manufacturing is exciting along with other advancements in other industries.  However, the dangers of AI when it comes to scamming people is beyond anything society has ever imagined.  Be vigilant people.
