Might have to use DFDM to edit SO_Options.M4T. Those options are probably null. You would need to add an N or a Y to the field value.

So changed the options to hold a value but no change to message. Opened a case and Sage is saying it is a UDF that is required. ID:38502 I get the impression you all have seen this message before. i think it has something to do with the new multi order invoice. They have no UDF's. However she had one sales order associated to one invoice and can't save it, thus can not do any invoicing.

Has the invoice been deleted so the entry was starting ""from scratch"" after changing SO_Options? Is the user selecting the Apply Sales Orders button to select the one sales order for the invoice or just using the Sales Order Number field to enter or select the one sales order?

So this is finally resolved. Client had recently been upgrade to v2018.3. The problem was SU 3 never fully installed. So why they had some of the functionality and the message reflected the multi order/invoice feature she never had the button. Once the update was reinstalled everything worked fine.

Sage Advisor Update? (How on earth Sage could possibly think this program is a good idea, putting software installation in the hands of novices... SMH).

(I was suggesting PU3 was installed by the customer... as prompted by SAU, and it was not done correctly).

Hmm... that is curious, how a PU can be partially installed (if done by someone as skilled as a 90-Minder). :-)
