Anyone have recommendations for hosting centers used by your MAS 200 clients? Have been working with the Atlantic Metro Center (data center) in NY for last year for a MAS client on 4.40. Client made decision themselves to not only transition to hosted but sign a deal with AMC without doing any competitive analysis or research on comparable services and fees provided by other data centers.
Nutshell is they pay way too many $ / month for having their TS box and MAS server virtualized in a VMWare shared cluster. When they 1st moved over they didn't realize that both VMs were allocated only 2 GB of RAM with 1 Xeon dual processor. The VM allocation was not documented anywhere nor did the client pose the question (IT did actually but bonehead CIO said don't worry it'll be enough). In the end, they ended up paying higher rent for that.
Then they had screen latency / refresh issues and slow remote printing. Found out reason for that was client had only a 2 MB pipe to data center on a shared internet connection (not point-to-point) with most of their users on the West Coast. Not AMC's fault but they did nothing to help or point me or client's IT in right direction. We also had issue where every 3 hrs all MAS users would instantly slow down to a crawl and be comatose for exactly 10 minutes. I had to find out myself the AMC backup software was kicking off every 3 hrs and doing a differential backup that lasted 10 minutes that took over the whole VM. We changed schedule to not run in the daytime.
In the end AMC is an expensive hands-off provider, not great with customer service, and ready to play the blame game. Finally client is looking at options for changing providers. Looking for a data center that is reliable, responsive, willing to work with client's IT, is clear about level and depth of services that come with the pkg, clear on how much shared hardware on the physical box is allocated to the VM, etc. Anyone have good experiences to share?
