Anyone else seeing an outage with iShip for package tracking within Sage?

  • 1.  Anyone else seeing an outage with iShip for package tracking within Sage?

    Posted 12-13-2022 08:18
A customer emailed last night saying they are getting an error when they attempt to track shipments:

400 bad request error when checking tracking from inside of Sage

    According to Sage KB 117888

The website Sage 100 ERP package tracking uses is https://iship.com/trackit

When I try to access this URL outside of Sage from my computer  I get a  400 Bad Request

Anyone else taking reports on this?

Yes the website has changed at iship.  Wondering if Iship will fix or if Sage will need to update the website.

Is there any way to change where that link points to, other than adding a new button with a script?  Client is complaining that it's cumbersome to copy/paste to the package handler's site for tracking.

    End user reports:

This is a change just in the browser that opens.  The CSR must type it in, but it is better than typing out the tracking number like they are doing now.
I looked into changing this in Forwarding in the domain controller or HOST file changes, but that does not seem to work (or at least I cannot make it work).  The redirect extension for Chrome did not work well for this either.

Wayne - Clicking the iShip button first connects to a Sage web service called http://services.bestsoftwareinc.com where the tracking number is appended as part of the full URL. Then that web service (not anything in Sage 100 itself) redirects requests to https://iship.com/trackit today. So long term that redirection needs to get updated to include the "sso" in it. Until then there should be a way in the customer's router/firewall to redirect if it can't be done in the HOSTS file.

I have had two clients report this.   I spoke to Sage and got an email back saying iship was down.   I called Starship and got a call back saying they were getting reports as well.   Sort of sad that it is controlled by a Sage site/server and that support has no idea...

I chatted with support a couple days ago regarding this. They said engineering was working on it. When I pressed further on what we were looking at in regards to how long this would take to resolve,  they said it was an iship issue and engineering is waiting for them - see screenshot. In sage city they stated they are looking for another multi carrier solution so I have a feeling this may take a long time to resolve.

Anyone create a customizer script to another site for tracking multi carrier tracking numbers or one for each carrier? Trying to figure out the best way to resolve as it doesnt appear Sage will resolve soon.

I haven't found anything official about iShip's status. This website which appears to be related to UCLA Purchasing mentions that iShip was scheduled for shut down 12/31/2022. If true, the timing seems about right for them to suddenly go offline.

Would this mean paying Sage 100 subscription customers now have two payments to make?

One for their regular subscription - which is supposed to support the maintenance of the product ( except when Sage deems it too tricky).

And a second payment for fixing things that Sage deems too tricky.

All this in an environment where Sage is raising prices 4-5% a year (Source: Latest Sage earnings call).

I suggest to my friends here that the purpose of our group should be to reach out to the decision-makers overseeing the thriving US market and make them aware of these "oversights."

We are not reaching the right level when we "grip and grin" with Sage local at our annual meetings.

They probably created the article in December 2022 when the problem first appeared, and it seemed like it was resolved server-side by Sage changing/updating the URL. Then, when it became apparent that iShip access was shutting down, Sage updated the KB.

So it appears ship24.com is at least a reasonable manual workaround (or https://www.ship24.com/tracking?p=TrackingNumberHere).  Does anyone yet have a Script successfully in place? - e.g. these two Sage City threads:  tracking-number-lookup-and-link-to-web-site-ship24 and shipping-data-entry---summary-package-tracking-customization

Wonder why Sage didn't simply include ship24.com as a resolution/workaround in the kb article?

I think Sage updated KB 117888 today ( 1/23/23 ) with the following:

    Additional information

    <content>

A little background on iShip from Iship site:

iShip, Inc.'s founders got their start in the shipping business in 1993, when UPS contracted with them to develop UPS OnLine Professional. UPS OnLine Pro became one of the most popular shipping software packages in the world, responsible for shipping well over 1 billion packages per year.
In 1997, iShip.com was founded, with the mission of becoming the "Internet Shipping Service Center." iShip.com shipped its first package over the Internet in 1998 and signed Mail Boxes Etc. as the launch customer for the iShip Service.

In October 1999, Stamps.com purchased iShip.com to create the leading provider of Internet-based mailing and shipping services. Stamps.com introduced the iShip Enterprise Service for corporate customers in May 2000.

Finally, in May 2001, United Parcel Service purchased the iShip business from Stamps.com and the company was renamed iShip, Inc.

Today, the iShip shipping and manifesting solutions are deployed at corporate campuses nationwide and at over 4,500 The UPS Store (TUPSS) locations.

In December 2022, iShip changed the website location to track packages externally and Sage 100 link stopped working. Sage 100 was updated to this new location URL which was later changed again and caused this new link to cease working in January 2023.

Per posts from UCLA https://purchasing.ucla.edu/news/iship-service-will-be-discontinued-2023 and Colorado State University, UPS discontinued iShip service effective 12/31/2022. Although nothing appears on main iShip website.

You can try this link: https://iship.com/trackit/track.aspx?t=1&Track=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx&src=_e (with tracking number in place of xxxxxx).

Here is what we have done to help clients.  We created a button on Invoice History Inquiry that the user can click on and track the first package it finds.  It can handle UPS, FEDEX, USPS.  It's not perfected yet but we have a couple of clients doing testing, hope this helps someone else at least get going.

Is there a spelling error in the title of this post?  Shouldn't "outage" be spelled OUTRAGE???

    Just wondering......

FYI, Sage just posted about a fix (on Sage City).
    Hi everyone,
Sage has implemented a replacement package tracking for iShip.  This new implementation is now live and is used in both Sage 100 and Sage 500.  The new implementation will now use the tracking id, to determine which carrier it belongs to and re-direct to the appropriate site.  The carriers that this will handle automatically will be USPS, UPS, Fedex, DHL, and Ontrac.  If the package id is not determined to be one of the aforementioned carriers, it will be re-directed to a google search with that package id.
In Sage 100, this will work from any package tracking buttons (ie Shipping Entry) and for paperless emails that use the embedded tracking token [TrackingNo]
    Thanks
