Anybody know of a sales side only serial # solution? I seem to remember someone offering one. Customer wants to record the serial #'s of items sold but doesn't want to use standard serial # functionality. They just want to be able to look up who has which serial #_'s or when a serial # was sold, etc.

UDF('s)?

Thought about that but wouldn't be real clean. Qty sold could be 2 or 3 or it could be 10-20 or more. We will use udfs if we have to probably.

Enter the SN's as a detail comment. Create an Excel query to pull AR history Invoice #, detail comment (and other required fields into spreadsheet. Use the Ctl F search functionality to find requested information. Probably could be done with Crystal report but can't imagine that search would be any faster. Save the spreadsheet to common folder. After opening the spreadsheet, refresh the query and repeat search. Did this for a client who searched for two days to find SN. Above method located it in less than five minutes.(which included initial query set up.

Thanks Jeff. I'll take that to them. It's a decent size public company, not sure they'll love it . But it might be a good functional solution.

Charge them $5K for the solution so that they think you spent a lot of time looking for the answer to their problem. Depending on how many serial numbers appear on each line, create a large UDF so that they could store the information. Then create a Crystal report to search for the information. Then charge them 10K for the extra effort involved. Now THAT's value. If you wanted to make the Excel Query even simpler, you could make the SN a parameter value, then make create a cell that this value is entered into. Then refresh the query. ONLY the detail lines that contain this value will be returned.

It seems as though the workarounds are more onerous than invoking the feature.

I know @MarkKotyla , you might be right. My business associate thought he remembered some sort of sales side serial # tracking solution. So I thought I'd ask if anyone knew of one.
