Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the old work files that get left out there? I have a client with 1,000 of them in different reports in AR and looking for a quick way to remove them all.

I search in the MAS90 directory for files containing *wrk.m4t and then delete them. Saves time IMHO. (At least I think it's .M4T?)

However, you can't delete those without the user/date info....

    Sorry, maybe not that helpful....

  • 5.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 18:50
Yeah. That's what I usually do. I accidentally deleted one of the ones without a user / date once and was just wondering if there was anything better, but you're probably right. That's probably it.

Wonder about that myself many times. But then I think, why the heck are so many being left behind? Sloppy coding? Workstation crash? @ThereseLogeais I do something similiar but much more manually intensive (sort by name, then delete). Doesn't your method clobber the original wrk file?

  • 7.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 18:50
It's always good to confirm what you believe to be the case.

  • 8.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 18:51
    Only if you're not careful.

  • 9.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

See my post above about not deleting the original ones @JeffSchwenk

  • 10.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

I'd like to figure out the logic to run a BAT file to clear them out every once in a while.

  • 11.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 18:52
Well if you do, let us know!!

  • 12.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:01
Theoretically this logic should work: del *wrk*0*.m4t del *wrk*1*.m4t del *wrk*2*.m4t del *wrk*3*.m4t del *wrk*4*.m4t del *wrk*5*.m4t del *wrk*6*.m4t del *wrk*7*.m4t del *wrk*8*.m4t del *wrk*9*.m4t and you just have to tweak it to run in each directory.

Well finding a solution would be much easier if Sage was consistent with their naming structure. Attached is from a clients v4.4 install.

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:05
Nice Robert but doesn't it have the user ID first as in Jeff's?

  • 15.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:07
Seems like something that tests for the last few characters as # would also be helpful.

  • 16.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:10
@ThereseLogeais that's why I have the * between wrk and the number. I'm looking through to see if there are any non temp work files with numbers in them. So far, I haven't found any.

  • 17.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:11
@WayneSchulz if I could figure out how to do that in a BAT file, I'd do it.

  • 18.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

Oops! Sorry I missed that. So again, nice!

  • 19.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

@JeffSchwenk Those bastards! Really! work and wrk.

Actually if you launch the batch file from the MAS90 folder and put a /s at the end, it seems to work. To test use the dir command instead of del. e.g. dir *wrk*0*.m4t /s But if you do launch it from the MAS90 folder, you may wipe out some files you might want. Note the sy_journalerrorlog toward the middle. Other than that, it seems to work with only one line.

If I get a working BAT file, I'll post it here.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Robert! While it all makes sense, an actual file would be terrific! We'll owe you one.

  • 23.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:13
    Yes! /s Thanks @JeffSchwenk!

  • 24.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:15
Also suggest instead of delete - use a move just in case. Are temp files (other than maybe paperless) the only ones with numbers at the end? If so could you just test for that? And while you're at it look for the BAK, BAD, OLD and nove them

  • 25.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:15
I'll expect to see this by the morning.

  • 26.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:19
and don't forget the .rp_ files...

  • 27.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:21
    Sheesh!

  • 28.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:21
And to make it nice and neat - ZIP them up

  • 29.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:22
What? Too much by tomorrow morning??

  • 30.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:22
BTW, move doesn't work with /s although I think XCOPY does.

If you want to play it safe, use the search function in Explorer and search on *wrk*0*.m4t Start in the MAS90 folder

  • 32.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:29
Still think this would be cool coupled with exporting to ZIP for archiving. *.rp_ *.bak *.old *.sav

  • 33.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:35
Nice @JeffSchwenk. (Do I say the word 'nice' too often?) Thanks for asking this question, Robert.

  • 34.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:39
Using the *0* variable seems to be sufficient as all of my files that were candidates for deletion had a zero somewhere in the time stamp extension. A one would work for the next 7 years as the year (12) is part of the time stamp also............

  • 35.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Posted 06-13-2012 19:42
    you're so smart @JeffSchwenk ...

  • 36.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

Shoutd I quote you a price for a KTA for the next 12 months???

  • 37.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

    Sure, go ahead!

  • 38.  RE: Anybody have a quick easy way to remove any of the

Here's what I'd want included: Can I pick your brain for any partner-related questions; Do you know the resolution before I expend any effort; Do you know someone who knows the resolution; etc., etc.

KTA? Sounds like a 90 Minds membership.

Have the BAT file. I'm waiting for my test environment to finish recreating.

I posted it here https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/11441640?mini=true I didn't zip the files. I was too lazy to figure it out.
