I believe this is due to permissions. Check permissions on the C:\program Files (x86)\common Files\BI* folders (4-5 of them). Make sure they have full permissions.

I am also getting this on a local workstation. Same report works on terminal server but not on the workstation. No answers yet. Just found it yesterday.

I get this on my computer also and am admin. I am using Sage v2018 and excel 2016, client is using Sage v2017 and office 365. We both have same issues. She is trying to learn SI and I am stumbling trying to help. All docs relate prior to v2014

When you open Excel and go to options/addins, is the Report Designer Add-in listed as Active? When you ran workstation setup, did you run as Admin with UAC turned off? Also make sure Excel Solver is not active or any other Excel Addins.

Did all that and KB21226 article talked about clicking on and off to get the task pane to show. Also looked at BI Tools to see if I could create a report that way. I don't evenhave the same icons as the documentation shows. Then did the turn off/on of add-in again in options and then could get task pane. However, now it is a hit and miss once you close excel and open again

There is a KB article on this error (101629). Make sure the report designer enabled is showing a 1on the license manager screen. You may need to contact sales to get license updated. There is also a patch for SI to work with Excel 2016.

@JoeUhl is my go to for SI support. Perhaps he will chime in here.

You might need to check registry settings. Give this a whirl? 1. Create a .txt file on the desktop. 2. Add the information below to it exactly how it is 3. Save and change the extension to .reg 4. Close and double click on the file to open 5. Click yes to change the registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\BIGenerator] ""Description""=""BI Generator"" ""LoadBehavior""=dword:00000003 ""FriendlyName""=""BI Generator"" ""CommandLineSafe""=dword:00000001 ""Manifest""=""C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Common Files\\\\BIGenerator\\AlchemexWizard.vsto|vstolocal

one reason the task panel is missing that took calling alchemex to get. (This is done at your own risk) check your registry at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\{versions X.X} inside of these different versions make sure you only see one X.X\excel. if you see more that means a prior install of excel didn't properly clean up the registry (or you have another install of excel). to fix this we uninstalled all the versions of office then deleted the lingering keys. then reinstall excel and test again.
