I was at our local Santee fireworks. Although, I have been to those in the past and they usually are impressive. I guess you could say that about for last nights too except the show was a little short. Jim

But what a customer experience - for the full 15 seconds!

No, apparently it was a crappy customer experience. With everything exploding all at the same time, it was just a big bright annoying and short-lived display. I was at home, but people who were there thought it was the show organizer trying to get everyone's attention prior to starting the show. After 30 more minutes of nothing, they knew better and went home. Apparently, the fireworks company who put on the show said that it is insured for the malfunction, and that the city will get its money back. Luckily, nobody was hurt.

When I was eight years old, we went to see the fireworks on the Fox River in Aurora. We were sitting on the bridge and people were wondering why the fireworks seemed so close during the first few minutes. Next thing you know, my nylon windbreaker caught on fire when firework shrapnel landed on it. My dad had the smarts to tell us to get out of Dodge and we packed up in a hurry and headed to the car. The headline the next day read: ""Aurora fireworks shot at crowds"" (or something similar). Apparently the team setting it up set the cannons at 30 degrees from ground instead of 30 degrees from vertical. OOoopss! Got a cool souveneir - dumped my shaved ice cone on the shrapnel and cooled it off and took it home. Jacket was ruined though.

@PeterWolf If you still have the shrapnel, a picture would make a nice temporary July 4 avatar.

I had read that the fireworks company blamed it on a corrupted computer file (true story). Most likely they were using a Sage product and tech support gave them bad advice (probably true story).
