And one last thing, since I can't seem to shut up tonight - is anyone else experiencing really long hangs with the startup of Crystal 2011? Not every time, but often enough I'm ready to scream - not just my machine, but every type and OS of client machines, too.

I've certainly noticed it. I thought it was something to do with our configurations. Glad you commented on it.

OMG, thank you, thank you, thank you. At least SOMETHING that isn't making me thinking I'm losing it today.

It's probably waiting for the startup web page to download from SAP...

You mean when you click to open a report and you wait 2 or 3 minutes or more??

I have had this happen only at certain clients .. can't figure out why it takes forever to open up a report on some and not on others.

    Ditto....

Don't know if this is the solution or now, but found this by searching the web: ""It looks like the problem was the report had a printer embedded in it that was not defined on the machine the report was being run on. Once the printer was removed the report ran faster.

Have that happen a bunch in Terminal Server even on older versions of Crystal

I noticed it more when creating new reports, especially report settings in 2013 on my Alien machine which is loaded with power and hadn't even printed it yet.

Yep, I was just complaining about this yesterday.

Yes, and experiencing the ""not every time"" part too; hard to find the cause when it's intermittent. Happens a lot lately when logged in remotely to a client's machine, v.2013 installed, and I'm assisting with revising a form or report. Sometimes I click on the Designer button from within the print window to launch Crystal, the Crystal program window opens, then wait .......... but form or report never displays, then I have to bring up Task Mgr and close the Crystal task, then re-launch; it usually works on the second launch attempt.

Uncheck ""Check for Updates on Start up"" on the Help menu inside Crystal.

Gee, I thought it was a new feature to encourage me to go for a walk and destress... Now, does anyone have any info on WHY it's doing this? ""Ignorance is a state of mind

Note to self - read the other messages in the stream, like the one above mine that said ""uncheck the check for Updates on Start Up"". Thanks Brett :) We now know what state my mind is in....

I had to actually go one step further then @BrettZimmerman and change the Start.html to be like the OfflineStart.html page because it was trying to load a bunch of stuff every time I opened it and the system wouldn't allow it (even though I was connected to the internet). Here is a good site for this fix: http://kenhamady.com/cru/archives/147.

    My path for 11.5 was a little different than Ken's. Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11.5\Start Page\en

Jim - Did any of the above solve your issue? If so which item(s)?

  • 24.  RE: And one last thing, since I can't seem to shut up

It looks like the Check for Updates box in Crystal help is the trick. I am testing it out right now.

@JimWoodhead that did it for me.

Yep. it did for me too. Looks like it is a default for Crystal 2011.

Uncheck ""Check for Updates on Start up"" on the Help menu inside Crystal worked for me too. Thank you, B. Zimmerman; love it when the fix is a checkbox!
