Am I overthinking this or would it be worlds easier for Sage to load every module upon initial installation then hide the modules that are not activated by keys? Wouldn't this make installing modules subsequently much easier vs now when we have to be sure we have the source disk, get everyone out of the system, pray that the new keys work, etc. This doesn't even consider sites that have 3rd party integrations where you have to worry about whether you need to reinstall the integration after loading a new module.

    This is a great idea.

Wayne, you are not overthinking. Overexpecting? Definite yes.

You can do that now, in a way, by using sy_menu_ui to hide the modules not in use. I always hide the CRM module if they don't use it. The only problem is if they select an integration in module setup options where they don't own the module. This could cause a big mess if not controlled.

Yes, this would be a great solution but would take up more disk space. But that may be a small price to pay for the added convenience.

Wouldn't Sage want to have this type of ease? They could allow the EU to install the module simply by entering in a key. No more looking around for a full installation disk, getting everyone out of the system for an hour, praying for the right keys, worrying about whether all the patches were reinstalled (or even whether there were any that need reinstallation)... When you talk about a ""road map"" this is what should be on it .... not the next gizmo that you're going to bolt-on and charge extra for or some cripple-ware that you are going to throw into support if the customer agrees to go onto a subscription.

That is a great idea. It is how JobOps installs their suite; as do many third party add on products.

Makes sense to me. Disk space is not overly costly these days.

    Yep. Make it so...

Sounds reasonable, but it would take more than just hiding the modules on menu. You'd also have to disable controls in Role Maintenance, Setup screens, ODBC settings, plus hide Business Objects, based on the activation key. I don't think Sage is up to the task, as their ability to activate/maintain 100c license info is questionable.
