Am I missing something - Sage 100 Advanced v2016.4 - I have traditionally told users that to net an open invoice against an open credit (which was not previously applied against an invoice ) you go into AR and do a zero dollar cash receipt. This does work and applies one against the other. However, the traceability of this appears to only be through the use of the PAYMENT REF: field. (usually the check # in cash receipts). There does not appear to be any grouping on a customer statement that shows the invoice followed by the credit memo which was applied: Invoice # Credit Memo Instead, the user has to be diligent about using the check # / Payment ref field to explain where a credit was applied against. Have I missed something somewhere in the setup that would show the credit against the invoice on a statement or perhaps I've overlooked a best practice in how to manage these after-the-fact matchings of open invoice against open credit? Previously my customers have all been **very** infrequent users of this method and virtually none sent statements so it never became an issue. However, this customer does a lot of credit memos and a lot of matching of stray credits to open invoice and sends statements. This is going a reconciliation problem that I hope to avoid by learning that I've set something up wrong.

Maybe the solution is not to do the matching internally but have the customer indicate what they are paying with their checks (including the credits). Interesting situation. Hope there is an easy answer.

    1. I think that the payment ref has been this way for a while. 2. The customer could add to their statements (with the help of their reseller) a clause: _Credits will be automatically applied to the oldest invoice balance unless specifically directed by the customer_

I have always used the word APPLY for the check number because that is what I was doing with the invoice and credit memo. I have also used the word WRITEOFF whenever I decided to truly writeoff an open invoice.

What happens when several open credits are applied during the month to different invoices. I've always used APPLY too but I find in this case it doesn't scale since the customer can't really follow which credit applies to which invoice when there were several similar applications in a month. The one workaround that I applied today is to add the RMA number onto the statement so that there's some level of tracking. It's still not perfect.

Could a UDF be added to this to capture info? Or extra step of creating a memo for the invoice?
