Am I missing something ridiculously simple? Enter a item on a Sales Order, convert it to an Invoice. Realize that the wrong item was entered so attempt to delete the line before inserting a new line. No can do. Why, oh why?

Line must be deleted on the sales order. Delete the invoice, delete the line on the order and enter a new line, re-invoice the order.

@DougHiggs doesn't that strike you as a dumb design? Could it have something to do with SO History? WAD is a hard pill to swallow sometimes.

For sure. It would be nice if modifying the invoice would auto-modify the sales order. Not sure why this isn't a feature ... maybe too much work to update the order and the order history.... Ideally, it would be a great setup option to be able to turn that feature on and off. Some companies may wish to have segregation of duties between order entry and invoicing and wouldn't want the person invoicing to have sales order modification abilities. Could control using security also though.

I was told once it had to do with audit trail... I believe I was able to change the quantity of the 'bad' item to zero on the invoice and add a new line for the correct item, but it still put the order in a back order status. @DougHiggs has the only truly workable answer with the current WAD... does seem harder than it needs to be, doesn't it?

@RandyMarion this actually gives me an idea. What if we zero out the bad item, insert the good item, print a modified Invoice (suppressing zero ordered lines) and post. Then periodically delete Backordered orders with zero ordered quantities? Weird, but might be acceptable
