Alternative to Starship

  • 1.  Alternative to Starship

    We have a couple of clients that are not happy with Starship.  Does anyone else have clients that have moved from Starship to other products or recommend any products that might evaluate?

    Anyways here is my take on the shipping world... there was Ship-link but it I was too pricey and had no references, I haven’t heard much from them lately . There is Pitney Bowes but most of the link to Sage 100 are custom interfaces... nothing out of the box that I know of. This leaves links directly to UPS Worldship and cross-ship and Fedex server. Shipgear is the most well know although there are couple other late 3rd parties but most of these really fall off when you compare features.

    Ditto what Jim said.  DSD does have a UPS/Fed Ex Link that can integrate UPS/Fed Ex with Sage 100...

    ​At Sage Summit San Diego I spoke with the True Commerce people at the trade show, and they have a new Pack and Ship module that was announced mid-2018. I don't know much more about it, but will probably review in detail when I am at Summit in Atlanta. Here is the link on the True Commerce website.     I have not really had any issues with the StarShip software itself, but it would be helpful to have alternatives. I do find that V-Technologies acts as though their solution is the only one, so there is an attitude, plus the pricing seems to increase more than many customers would like, so those could be the source of customer issues.

    speaking of TrueCommerce, we have a client in the middle of EDI implementation and it includes integration with StarShip, which the customer has been using for years.  Trading partner #1 is just coming on board live.  So far, the main take-aways are you need to insist on a project manager at the client who ​will be given the time needed to be hands on with the process and to go through TC training sessions.  You need to budget time as the reseller to be more hands on then the sales pitch would lead the customer to believe. The TC staff has been pretty good about being interactive but there are settings and data mappings in which our client wouldn't have made progress without our involvement.
