I have a customer who is looking at Altec primarily to help them with AP workflow, Expense Reporting and managing PO receiving with 3-way match.

I don't have any current customers using Altec but I think that's more of a cost issue ( sticker shock )

Do you have any current feedback on Altec?

What's the impact on upgrades? How quickly do they generally get current with the latest release?

Did your customer consider ( or maybe purchase ) an alternative? If so, what was the alternative?

    TIA

@Jeff Schwenk has been successful in selling and continuing to introduce Altec to his customer base. I've found that when there is a true need, the customer recognizes the benefits and cost is less of a factor. Once there is a user base of 3-5 current customers, then you have references that help with the new prospects. I can't comment on the upgrades and response on the part of Altec, since I have not worked with them directly.

We have implemented doclink for around 12 customers over the past 20 years. Implementations have integrated with PFW, Sage 100, Acumatica, and Navision. User counts have ranged from 3 to 150.  All started with simple AP process and a few (2 or 3) grew beyond invoice approval and entry.

Most recent is on Acumatica. The project was challenging as it was Altec's first integration to the ERP.  However, the put the needed resources on the solution and delivered. However, we were 3 months behind schedule due to adjustments and code correction development.

Experience on upgrades with Sage 100, they say they are ready but in our experience, they are usually a few months behind Sage on upgraded version support.

We haven't looked at alternatives on the Sage 100 platform in a few years.

Two larger clients using DocLink.  The first started out as a cluster.  Someone forgot to ask during the exploratory phase about Apple workstations.  Client had a lot of them.  Doclink did not do Macs a few years ago.  Client wanted their money back.  Sage said "Sorry Charlie" and offered them credit to be used for additional user licenses or new modules.  Controller was super pissed.  A year or two pass by, Doclink became compatible with Macs, I got the client to reengage and they started using it.  They even became a reference for me on my second client.  Both are using it full time now.  Client # 2 looked at other software but went with DocLink.  As far as upgrading, I have only upgraded one client.  It went smoothly.  As far as installation, it is highly customized for workflows.  This takes the majority of time.  The better the upfront conversations, the better the installation.  It is pricey.  I have a couple more clients that could use it and appreciate it, but the price tag is a major hurdle.

If the customer will likely never expand before AP-related processing, then you really should encourage them to also consider AP Automation vendors; at least AvidXchange and Concur. I have worked with AvidX and they are solid with Sage 100 integration. These also have decent PO approval functionality.

If the AP Invoice problem is one of several they have, then DocLink is a good place to start on their effort to Save the Trees. My DocLink rep agreed with this differentiation.

One of the key questions a customer should ask in this is about local effort. To what degree do they want to outsource the non-Payroll spending function? If they want local servers and local support of conversion and invoice acquisition, then they arrive a different preference than if they just want to hold onto the approvals processes. There are others, but this is the key one. More headcount, or less?

A quote from one of our DocLink users is"she can't imagine doing AP without it".  This is in their AP automation for Sage 100 sweet spot.  Price is an obstacle for most prospects.
