Alerts & Workflows / Knowledgesync Upgrade

  • 1.  Alerts & Workflows / Knowledgesync Upgrade

What is involved in upgrading Alerts & Workflows aka KnowledgeSync to the latest version that has the new interface?  Issues, difficulty upgrading, is it worth the work and cost, and any other comments are welcome.   If the end user is on maintenance do they get the new version for free?  Does everything that has been built already migrate with it?

@Doug Higgs, here's a little feedback I got from someone on our Team:
    • Most of the time it's not necessarily an easy upgrade, but sometimes you get lucky and it seems to magically all work out.
    • But quite often you'll get some SQL permissions-based errors and you'll have to jump through hoops (lots of Googling) to figure it out.
    • Recommend using the network logon that'll be used to run the Sage Alerts 'Service', to also install v10.
    • The v10 KLF has often not worked and therefore v9 needed to be installed(per Vineyardsoft), so it's a good idea to always get a v9 license in addition to v10 for the server you'll be working on.

And in case you didn't see Wayne's post in a different recent discussion:
Maybe check with  @Michelle Forsey as I think she indicated she's done more than a few upgrade - https://community.90minds.com/communities/community-home/digestviewer/viewthread?GroupId=13&MessageKey=07ef488d-5c1e-4649-860d-941f1bef5f44&CommunityKey=4593d843-4557-43ff-ba4d-6240681ed696&tab=digestviewer

Thanks @Brett Zimmerman  This is all great information.  I haven't installed KS in a couple of years.  I need to get a better sense of the value to my customer of upgrading, the effort I will expend, and then some price options.

Do we know if there will be a patch for 10 to get it working with OAuth 2.0? I haven’t had time to check in on this one. I know they said they weren’t releasing anything with 9.0.

Last I heard (internally) as of yesterday was that it should be released within the next couple of weeks.

Patch was supposed to be out. Greg Swallows is a good resource there. He has been fairly responsive to people in my office.

Sounds like Greg is expecting it by end of day.  And just fyi, his e-mail footer is the following:

As of September 1, 2022, though, Microsoft revisited their policy and indicated that they will NOT disable SMTP Authentication (SMTP Auth) at this time. Therefore, SMTP-based Alerts and Workflow email alerts will remain operational for the moment.

If it is so difficult and the support lacks so much, why don't we have another solution to migrate clients?

We use Visual Cut for automated reporting... and Ido's new ActionQ program fills in a number of workflow functionality gaps.  (Although the interface is a bit rough around the edges, it does work reliably for a couple of our customers who have it).
