    ALERT!

    EMV Requirement: Paya Connect Desktop Upgrade - August 28, 2019

    A new version of Paya Connect Desktop (PCD), formerly Sage Exchange Desktop, will be available on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. This new version of PCD is required to continue processing EMV transactions.

    Users will be prompted to install the update upon launching PCD and may also update by right-clicking the PCD icon in the system tray and selecting "Install Update" from the top of the menu. The upgrade must be initiated by a Windows user with administrative rights to install/remove programs and make changes to permissions on the computer.

    Please install the update before the end of business on Thursday, August 29, 2019 to ensure there is no interruption to your EMV payment processing.

    Our Support teams will be available to assist at 800-261-0240 and support@paya.com. We apologize for any inconvenience.

    I'm not a big fan of sudden pop-up "do you want to install" windows. In the era of ransomware - which appears to be here to stay - most IT professionals rightfully limit the amount of Windows changes and installations their users are allowed.

    This type of architecture, long term, is, in my opinion, a problem for the Sage 100 platform.

    Sage needs to get away from requiring users to install updates individually and move to a more centralized administrative installation.  Perhaps the only realistic way to resolve this is in the future run the sessions from a remote desktop/terminal services/Citrix type infrastructure.

    I just noticed that this alert doesn't mention what version the customer will be upgrading to so there's no way for us to know ( until we see the first forced update ) whether the customer software has been updated.

    I called Paya support and unsurprisingly they had no idea why I would want to know what the updated version number was. They explained it as "The customer is going to go from Exchange Desktop to Paya Desktop". Uh, ok, good. Thank you and have a nice day.

    Rescheduled to 5:00 pm EDT today.  Paya's deployment of a new version of Paya Connect Desktop (PCD), formerly Sage Exchange Desktop, will be available after 5:00 pm EDT on Wednesday, August 28, 2019. This new version of PCD is required to continue processing EMV transactions.  Please install the update before 4:00 pm EDT on Thursday, August 29, 2019 to ensure there is no interruption to your EMV payment processing.

    I just walked a customer through updating this and I did mine as well and my computer went into a restart without notice. Hopefully that does not happen to customers.

    I don't think mine required a reboot.
    Most of the time when I've received a surprise reboot it's due to a Microsoft component needing to be installed. I want to say at one point a certain .NET level may have been a culprit.

    I have one client who uses win terms, whose security is so tight, every time this happens, the IT guy has to wait til a Wednesday when he's on site, elevate EACH user to admin long enough to log into their win term as them, let the update install and then log out and lower their rights.  It's a huge ordeal.  Otherwise, the end user never sees that pop up (to @Wayne Schulz's point) and they only know they can't run credit cards.​
