We have a client that is still holding out on perpetual license; and they are up for annual renewal. If they switch to subscription, their annual maintenance will actually be lower, but they are asking what other benefits there are to switching.  Does anyone have a handy list?

I haven't seen much different than what Doug posted. However, look through the recent help files. You can see that Sage has made some formerly subscription-only features available to everyone and added some new subscription-only features. This is confusing, in my opinion.

For example, if you go to the current online help files - https://help-sage100.na.sage.com/2023/index.htm

In the upper right, search "subscription only"

It will provide you with results, and if you click the "What's New" ( first result ), you can read about recent features either added as subscription only in v2023 or made available to everyone.

I long ago started telling people to migrate to subscription, and the only reason not to is if you are planning to stop paying maintenance ( which I also tell them I recommend against-in writing).

I've had a few customers call Sage, and they try and say, "Schulz told me to drop maintenance," which is why I always put these recommendations into an email.

Thank you @Wayne Schulz and @Doug Higgs. I also find it confusing. We try to get clients on subscription also. I'm not sure what this client is waiting for since they will save money if they do.

We have one client who's been off plan for over 5 years, and is leaving Sage because of the way Sage handled perpetual customers when subscriptions were implemented.  It's more of a "for the principle of it" emotional decision, than a proper business decision, but what can you do?

Pay buckets of money to "buy" a perpetual license, which never expires (...you'd just lose upgrades / updates / support).  Then be told that new customers on the subscription license, who did not pay those buckets of money, have access to features that are unavailable to perpetual license users (who literally paid for the product's development)... and the only way to get those features is to give up the perpetual license (and the primary value of those buckets of money).

Fallacy of sunk cost.  Those buckets are gone.  What's the best decision to make today?
