    Acumatica Summit 2021 | July 18 - July 23, 2021, | Wynn Las Vegas

Hello BOD - I wanted to open this up for discussion.  Robert and I have discussed this as well.  We would love your input.   The Acumatica Summit has come up several times in the last few months.  It is my understanding that we have never been able to capture this group in the right way.   That said, it has become clear to me that this event presents several opportunities.  I know we have sponsored in the past but that doesn't make sense to me - yet - as to why you did that (please feel free to share).

At this point, I would like to see if it is worth considering attendance at just the Expo (two evening events).  I think this will be beneficial for several reasons:

    1.  Network Network Network:  Relationship Building (Affiliates and More).  This is my first opportunity to get in front of some of our key stakeholders and meet them in person.
    2.  Event Overview:  I would love to basically look at this as an R&D visit and also see how Acumatica is managing their event.  I could give you a long list of benefits.
    3.  Acumatica Due Diligence: I would hope to really understand Acumatica in more detail and maybe figure out some unique opportunities to connect,  By doing this - also shows Acumatica that we still have an interest in connecting with them (even though that is a gray area).

Below is the estimated cost for me to attend (I estimated high):

Summit Only Ticket $995  ( I have attempted to get a pass at no charge with no luck - we have one contact at Acumatica so if you have ideas let me know).
    Airfare: $350
    Hotel: $400

    Total Estimated Cost:  $1745

I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.  Thanks!

The idea to have a booth at the summit was to capture the attention of attendees walking through the booths, let them know who we are, and the benefits of joining our group. Our booth location was not great so we didn't capture as many fish in our net as we had hoped. But the bigger issue, IMO, is that we are a Sage-focused group and we haven't seemed to find the "build it and they will come" offerings for resellers who focus on other products. We're going to have to find out what would draw Acumatica resellers to our group, and if we don't have what they want now, at least get the feedback and then work on plans to build it. The glue that has always held 90 Minds together is the need for sharing knowledge and helping each other fix things in Sage that break. This is sort of less of an issue with Acumatica. But it doesn't mean that there are no other opportunities. Since we are trying to grow our organization, and bringing in new members is one way to do that, it may be worth $1,745 for networking and reconnaissance. I dislike throwing good money after bad, but this is a different approach than the last time and Anne is an engaging personality. We should investigate all possible avenues for growth until they are exhausted. Do we need a short ad-hoc meeting about it when Robert returns from vacation?

I'm back as of today. Maine is beautiful. Salem, MA, is neat. Boston is crazy but has great food.

Jim flies out tomorrow evening and comes back Sunday.

I think Karen got to the same conclusion I did when Anne and I talked about this right before I left.

I think that with this amount of money we should have a board vote. Everyone, please reply with Yes or No.

I agree that this may be an avenue for growth and I like the reconnaissance element of how events are going these days. I think Karen's point is great that if this trip could result in some clear feedback as to how to attract resellers that focus on other products then it would be worth the investment. I'd be especially interested in the feedback from resellers who support both Acumatica and Sage but only attend Acumatica's events - if there is such a person.

Mike Nottali's firm is in your category, Kate. They support Sage 100, but actively promote only Acumatica; they dropped 90 Minds as a result. Mike told me that he would have stayed in 90 Minds if we had the same sort of robust business-oriented (such as FOTF) sessions as occurred 5 years ago.

The experiments we've run in the past 5 years on Acumatica clearly showed that the break-fix orientation of our core group really can't really work with Acumatica without a strong anchor, sort of like Wayne. I am skeptical that we can find that person/firm to start.

acu-connect seems to be gaining steam. It is quite different from 90 Minds, but close enough to explore partnership/cannibalization.

Acumatica made it clear that their focus is on maintaining/growing their larger VARS, international expansion, and local user groups. 90 Minds won't get any attention from them with those priorities. (Larger VARS generally have their own internal technical resources to address 90 Minds-like q&a.)

acu-connect's premise is as a resource to end-users and partners for ISV solutions to expand Acumatica's functionality. This is a consulting mindset that I've encouraged 90 Minders to take for a couple years now; I don't think it's getting much traction. I think this is the only possible avenue to developing an Acumatica section, but I don't yet see exactly how that happens.

Attending A Summit as an exploration is fine with me. BUT I do think Anne needs to go with a very clear set of questions, suggestions, responses to "what does 90 Minds do, and why do you think we have any interest in you here?", and a target list of people/firms to run into. Otherwise, it will be a waste.

This won't be a walk in the park. But I support this sort-of last shot.

    Some comments:

I am on this thought already and have some ideas such as a private nesting group and actually, this is not an idea to give up on as it relates to Acumatica as well.   Maybe this is the answer - how do we get who Acumatica wants to be in front of rather than supplementing support.

Jerry - Can we hop on a call next week to discuss this further?

I love the idea of gathering some targeted intel.  I welcome additional input on this and I have some ideas as well.  The bigger issue is really going to be relationship building.  That is where I will be able to navigate potentials opportunities.

Overall foundational ideas for online communities benefits include customer support (we have this for Sage and Acumatica appears t not need it).  But also there is self-esteem, reputation, partnership, collaboration or companionship, content/education, and information in terms of benefit options.   Important to keep this in mind as well.

It sounds like the main approach taken so far has been offering an online community for use.  That isn't enough when they have their own resource.  A good example is when I am reviewing CRM for membership, the forum modules are not important to me because we have the component.  However, there are other things that are definitely needed.

Accu-connect is another story and they do seem to need this support.

Thank you all for the input.  It all helps.

I'm more than happy to discuss further, anytime.

It's tough to build relationships unless they can understand any value we could offer. I don't think we've been successful at defining and stating that potential value to people in the Acumatica world. Our past attempts at this didn't much work. I worked the booth at Summit 2018; we were a curiosity.

Hi everyone - Just a brief update

I am back from the Acumatica Summit (2 days, 1900 Attendees, 15,000 steps/7+ miles of walking later).  I am working on a report to share with you all in a day or so.  I felt it went better than expected and I also feel it accomplished many goals on many fronts - which I am excited to share!
