  • 1.  ACT! Upgrade

    I have a Sage 100 customer that has an old version of ACT!  They have had a couple of ACT! consultants ignore / blow them off recently and they are asking me for help.  They want to upgrade ACT! to a current version.  Does anyone know anything about the upgrade process?  Is it a parallel or in-place migration?  Does it require an experienced ACT! certified consultant to do the upgrade?  Is this something I should avoid altogether or is it like upgrading MS Excel and it is something I could do with minimal risk of failure?

    Do you REALLY want to do this?  Isn't Sage challenging enough?  It could be easier to be the next Cubbie manager.....

    How old is old?  I use Act! Pro Version 17.1.169.0.  It is unsupported but it keeps on ticking.  Chances are it will install to a separate folder, then you run the migration tool to pull from the old database, the conversion cranks and you can listen to the radio heads about who is replacing Joe.

    I do have two Iowa clients running Act.  One is in the process of moving to Sage CRM.  I could ask them for the names of their Act consultants.  Maybe they would have a desire for making some money.  LMK.

    LOL @Jeff Schwenk   NO... I do NOT want to do this... but I want to help my Sage 100 customer.  They have ACT! 5.0.02  I can hear your laughter here in Chicago!  If you have a name of an ACT! consultant your client is happy with please send me the contact information.

    BTW  I can't believe Theo fired Joe Maddon.  I am very anxious to know who earth he believes will be an upgrade.

    @Doug Higgs - to add to Jeff's comments - once you touch this you are, in the customer's eyes, going to own the project to completion. Many of my most regrettable projects have started off on this "be a good guy" track. ​ You get 1/2 way in there and maybe can't make it work but then you don't want to leave the customer hanging ( which Sage and prior consultants already have).

    Proceed cautiously.

    Struck out with the first ACT user as they are DIY type of people.  Surprising since their ACT database is more important than their Sage data......  BTW, perhaps they would be better served if you found them a great Sage CRM consulttant.........

    RE Maddon, he lasted a lot longer than many Sage NA execs we encounter!!!!!!

    The current ACT! is nothing like that of yesteryear. This is a great time for them to consider what they really need. Definitely refer this problem to somebody else.

    We use ACT! and Christina in our office is an ACT! certified consultant.  She is off this week but I can have her call you next week to review options.
