  • 1.  ACS Multi-Bin to DSD Multi-Bin Basic

    Posted 11-20-2019 12:04
I'm working on a test migration for a customer who has decided to move away from ACS Multi-Bin, to the DSD Basic version included with 100c.  I don't have install files for ACS MB v2019.2.

It is Premium and just a test, so I can't uninstall ACS from the source system, and migrating from a copy is not an option.

The current plan is to scrub three files (SY0CTL, SY_Module, and SY_Enhancement) temporarily of all references to ACS to (hopefully) allow the migration to proceed, but that has me concerned in a few ways.

    Any thoughts / recommendations?

Check SY_ClassEnhancement too, this is what tells the system to look for class overrides that are in the MAS90\Links folder.

    Thanks David.  Good thought.

I'm most concerned about the data dictionary / missing programs / extra fields / extra tables after the migration, but I'm waiting on a document from ScanForce which might help clarify things.  By not uninstalling ACS MB before the migration (only removing the entries the Sage tool checks to allow the migration program to proceed), I'm wondering if the resulting system will be unstable.

    Hi Kevin:

This is a bit off topic but you would mind saying why customer is changing. I have several customers on ACS (Scanco) MB but none that are on DSD. Just wondering if it's a financial decision or some features in DSD that are not in ACS.

    Thanks

It has been an aggravatingly long wait to get the 2019 install files, and ScanCo has been ignoring me / the customer for months.  The fact this customer is on 100c and DSD MB Basic is included makes the move even better for them.

We have another customer who would love to leave ScanCo MB for DSD MB & ScanForce (for the same service quality reasons) but they use scanners with WO, so that is not an option (yet).

Thank Kevin. You are not asking but I have to say that I have had a totally different experience with Scanco. I updated 3 clients with Scanners and MB recently and they were there the whole way. I agree that ACS was hard to deal with and not responsive at all.

I've had smooth ScanCo projects too, but recently things have been less positive.
I sent four different follow-ups to this email, and to date have not heard a thing in response to any of them.
I can understand slow development (while dedicating resources to Production Management development issues) but project management / communications with Partners / customers... that could be done better.

I concur @Kevin Moyes point - we are 8 months past the 2019 release (which, btw, was released in March 2019 not October 2018, 5 months late).  The delay, while no one at Sage may direcctly admit it, was to give Scanco more time.  The alternative to ACS/Scanco multi-bin would be Scanforce, but Scanco hasn't released source code to my knowledge for PM.  Partners and their customers have their hands tied. .

Please let us know how the conversion to basic multi-bin goes, @Kevin Moyes, I'm sure we have many members and their customers that would like a choice.
