Aatrix 941 form - How are people handling the 3rd party sick pay that is being entered on line 8 of the 941?? Client's TPA sends in employee portion but client has to add employer. If she enters the amount to deduct from Line 8, it increases line 7 adjustment for fractions of cents. Line 10 should be the total of lines 6,7,8, & 9. Line 8 should not effect line 7. Aatrix is at a loss to tell her something.

Is the 3rd party payer doing the W2? Up until this year, most of the 3rd party payers my clients have been dealing with haven't done the W2s so we've actually entered the 3rd party sick pay through a payroll run. See the attached instructions. Note that you have to adjust the amount on the Schedule B to include only the employer's portion of the taxes. Maybe that's the step you're missing. This year it seems we have more where the 3rd party payer is doing the W2s. I haven't dealt with it yet, but I know I have 2 appointments coming up where I'm going to have to go in and fix things because they processed the sick pay and the payer is now doing the W2s.

I should clarify - if the 3rd party payer does the W2s, then the client needs to file a Form 8922. If the client does the W2s, the 3rd party payer does the 8922. The amounts on the 8922 plus the amounts on the W2s should equal the 4 941 totals.

I doubt if any of my clients are filing 8922 when the TPA is preparing the w-2's. Maybe the TPA is sending a completed form to the client. Thanks for the interesting information.
