I just got a call from a client who had a 1099 returned to them due to an incorrect address.  We used Aatrix' full service so they did the mailing.  My client said the right address is on the 1099 form itself.  However, it was in an envelope with the company name and address printed on it.  The company name is right, but the address is a whole different street address, city and zip than what is printed on the form.  And it's not an address for any of their other vendors.  How awesome is that!  GRRR

Oh no!!  Taking away my "warm and fuzzy" about Aatrix.  This seems so unlike them.  Hope this was a one-time event!

This is the response Aatrix sent.  My client is in the process of verifying the vendor's address did indeed change.  If it did, just another reason to force users to stop printing and mailing forms and use Aatrix' full service.

Important tax documents, such as W-2s, 1099s, and 1095s, cannot be forwarded by the United States Postal Service (USPS). The USPS updates and maintains a CASS Certification System with the most current address for every individual to ensure proper receipt of mail.

As Aatrix Software is a bulk filer, we are required by the USPS to mail these tax documents to the current address they have on file within the CASS system. You may encounter a situation where your employee/recipient has moved, but not notified you of the new address. In this circumstance, the mailing address on the outside of the document will be updated to reflect the most current address provided by the USPS.

Interesting!  So, then how did your customer have one returned with an incorrect address?

That's what we're trying to figure out.  She said it looks like they most likely moved.  The phone number she has on file is no longer valid.  The only thing that makes sense to me is the business name changed as well when they moved or maybe the new address is a residence.  She's trying to track down answers via email.  When I first got the call, I was grumpy with Aatrix thinking how can this possibly happen.  Now I'm impressed that they have that level of address verification in place.  Thank goodness this 1099/W2 season is almost over!
