A question for the KnowledgeSync fans here: Is there any way to monitor an order lines table for changed records? Just had a customer purchase KnowledgeSync and the first thing they want to do is record new AND CHANGED sales orders on a daily basis. Is their any way to monitor an order lines file (multi-field key) for changes? Business Alerts does not have this limitation.

Well, it looks like Don Farber is also part of WA - just got this response back from him: Good news this restriction does not apply in this client's case, as long as you use a module within KnowledgeSync called ""KLF"" ""KnowledgeSync Linking Function"" which we highly suggest for all MAS Providex clients. (KLF is detailed in the the ""Utilities"" chapter of the KnowledgeSync Manual.) KLF automatically creates a single-field unique column in every table in the Sage 100 (MAS90) database; after you configure and run KLF and go into the KnowledgeSync Query Designer, you will see that the first column in every table is called ""a1_unique"" this is a single field unique value that KnowledgeSync creates in the case of the order line table, this field contains the order number AND line number. Now if they would just put that little bit of news on the page in the manual that tells you you can't do it...

How does this unique field monitor whether the line is new or changed? What am I missing? There already are date fields for new and changed records. I still don't see how KS can tell you WHAT field was changed for that record. From my understanding of the KLF function, they are just some hybrid Access database tables created so that you can get around the ODBC drive speed limitations.

KnowledgeSync monitoring for changed records can only handle situations where the key is a single field. The KLF adds a unique ID to each record so that you can use that instead of the default Sage keys, which for order line records are always at least two fields. See page 105-106 of the KnowledgeSync manual.

Is it just me or do you now have to be a PHD to spec out what's needed for an add-on. In my experience there is nothing worse than selling an add-on and then finding the customer needs another add-on to make the first add-on work.

I am doing some Googling on this -- looks as if KLF is a free utility? http://www.vineyardsoft.com/lit/newsletters/KS_Education_Bulletin_week17.html Do you know if that's still the case. Also caution on Knowledgesync as one member has run into problems getting timely updates about the status of their latest release.

You have to download the KLF from the KS web site. Freebie.

@WayneSchulz - one of the reasons I went with KS over Business Alerts for this customer is that there doesn't seem to be any development on the Business Alerts side, as it has been bought, and that company bought, etc, until it is now considered milk money by its current owner. And there seems to be a running spat over spilled milk with Sage which has lead to you not being able to buy Business Alerts to work with Sage 100 SQL, even though you can get it for Sage 300, which is SQL - which mean the reasons aren't technical, they are about inability to agree on how to split the revenue.
