A question for the group - is 2018 a good choice for a new payroll user with 5000+ employees? They only use GL and Payroll When we first got started 2018 was too new to recommend and after the fallout of those brave souls who were pioneers I definitely wanted them to use 2017. However, due to their other software they haven't gone live yet and they just let me know they need multiple local taxes (Colorado OPT tax). What would you do? Would you start them on 2018 at this point before they are live or is 2018 still too painful? I spent some time on this thread - https://90minds-com.socialcast.com/messages/37965794 - which was helpful but a few months old. How are people feeling now?

Just Colorado for state reporting? Anything out of ordinary like certified PR's, unions, tip reporting? I assume mostly direct deposit. Do you have any other clients running v2018 PR? You could try asking Linda Cade to see if they have any live installs with the number of employees you are looking at. Since you aren't live in v2017, spin up a test install of v2018 and migrate the data. Then run a side by side test using both versions. If you get similar results and the cloud tax calc speed is acceptable, then it may be worth a shot. Also, get Linda Cade to give you some support guarantees so you aren't caught in white water rapids without your paddle and helmet.

I'm not as concerned about PR as what is tracking the HR info for 5K+ employees

We are moving payroll folks to 2018 now.

I'm with Wayne. With 5k employees, and a desire to run payroll on site, they really should look hard at Sgee HRMS or something similar. Chuck and I can help you, or there are other 90 Minders in the specialty. Really, they are probably killing themselves keeping this all together.

Thank you for your input! I will review what HR solution they are using and if there is an opportunity there. It is also good to hear that the 2018 beast might be (mostly) tamed.

Or sleeping quietly until roused by an unruly client that is doing something outside the Sage thought process. Still waiting on a fix to provide ability in rounding SIT calculations. used to have it, now they don't. State of IA is not helpful because do not reference rounding in their calculation documents but the payment website will not accept cents.
