A picture is worth a thousand words (or if they tell you about the error messages). Client started having issues a couple weeks back. V2013 Std, PU8. They got a virus which was cleared up by IT, but they continued to be sluggish with frequent lockups. WIN 7 WS's, server only a couple years old, no clear pattern to the problems. Yesterday, IT assures me the scanning is off for the Sage folder, yada, yada, yada. Happened again today. This time, they sent a snap of the screen. The solution was instant. Turn the damn PEP off!!! I had forgotten that it is turned on EVERY time you do an update or a year end IRD......

Ooh, thanks for the reminder, @JeffSchwenk - I never think about that until the error pops up, either.

I had a conversation with Deborah about this, and supposedly the next update will include a revised PEP dll that will not cause problems (or will cause different ones, anyway). I also had the spyware discussion with her about it turning back on with updates, and she said that was only supposed to happen on major releases. As for making it actually ""opt in"", her reasoning was that ""everyone is doing it"". Grrrr...

I spoke with her too, and explained that I turn it off for every client. Deborah's response was that when PEP was added to Sage 100, it was not added using the same technology that was used in other Sage products. They 'have changed this' and with the next release it will not cause the problems it did previously... I agree with @PhilMcIntosh ; it should be an ""Opt In"" technology, not an opt out. And I hate that response ""everyone is doing it...

So why not making opting in mandatory for looking at client issues on the portal? The CLIENT has to opt you IN?? Seems a bit hypocritical....

During one of their training sessions on Sage 2015 they stressed the importance of turning PEP on because if it was turned off in an older version, it doesn't get turned back on during the migration. Finally something that works the way that it should!
