  • 1.  A client's W-2 forms incorrectly add the FICA Tips

A client's W-2 forms incorrectly add the FICA Tips (Box 7) to FICA withheld Box 4. Box 7 is left blank. If we review the spreadsheet in Aatrix, the column for Box 7 has the right amounts. We caught this because an employee attempted to file with Turbo Tax and it gave a warning saying that the employer had withheld too much and that they should get a corrected W-2 from the employer. Any idea why this would have happened? Nothing in the knowledgebase that I can find...... Thank you! Lou

There's a checkbox when you're going through the Aatrix menus that says, ""Do you have any employees who earn SS tips that must be reported?"" If I recall correctly, the client answered this as a ""Yes.

To follow up, I reviewed the forms more closely with a Sage rep and we could not reproduce the error. That is to say, the forms were/are correct in the overall scheme of things. I should know, by now, to check client feedback more carefully rather than take their panicked word for it. As it turns out, I'm of the opinion that the EE with the ""defective"" W-2 simply didn't enter the data correctly in their Turbo Tax program. I seriously doubt I'll find out if this resolves the problem.
