A client asked me what the correct procedure for deleting inventory items that have a zero balance and they will not use again. I know some consultants recommend merging these into an item that is not used and that the alternative is to delete the item. Is there a reason to merge these items instead of deleting using the delete utility?

In the latest release it is no longer possible to delete.

Ron, I take these on a case by case basis. If the client has historical reports, queries etc that link to inventory for some piece of information that isn't in history then that query will break for items that have been deleted. If the item was merged then at least the history will link to something and not break.

@LouisAraiza that was my understanding as well, to merge since you can't delete them any longer.

I usually merge for the reasons Brett stated -- customers ""never need"" an item-- until they do.... My favorite is the ones who tell you they don't want more than 2 years history. Then the controller leaves or is fired. The next controller fires YOU for not setting up MAS90 properly and saving more than 2 years history....

I recommend making them inactive instead.
