Welcome!  We had an amazing 1st Meeting of the 90 Minds Mod Squad this week and look forward to one more meeting before our session at the 2020 Meeting of The Minds.

The 90 Minds Mod Squad was the brainchild of @Jeff Fiddelman who approached us to form a small group to propose quick and easy mods and features that enhance the Sage 100 product and most importantly, eliminate the quirks in the software.  We aren't trying to launch a new module, or tackle a big change, just the 'why-does-it-work-this-way' issues.  Once the concept was started, it was not long before Sage Development approached us looking for a similar group.  The best of both worlds meet and together, a better product will form from this wonderful collaboration.

The Mod Squad is tasked with coming up with a list of 'quirks' we think can be fixed.  From this list, we'll cull the top 10 and present them at MOTM.  From the feedback, we'll further refine these suggestions and then set up an exchange of ideas with Sage Development.

Did you read that?  We, 90 Minds, are affecting the direction of the Sage 100 product!  What an amazing opportunity for us and an equally amazing opportunity for Sage to gain real-world experience from the best minds around.

    @Madeline Stefanou @Andrew Hagenbach @Beth Bowers @Bill Pfahnl @Jeff Fiddelman

Attached is the list of ideas we came up with to date.  Please review and lets discuss our favorites, so we can develop the winning idea list to present.  Feel free to add new ideas to this thread or a start a new thread with an idea.

    Your minds rock, thank you!

PS. If the description of the enhancements is inaccurate, let me know so we can update it.

    Thanks Moira .....

I would like to volunteer to take the first pass at editing this word document, providing clarification, and a first pass at which should be in the "first 10" (as opposed to the top ten).  I think the criteria should be ease of understanding the feature request "at a glance" - from the point of view of participants in the session.

In the interest of efficiency, it is probably better that we all don't try to do this at once.

Everyone ok with this plan ?

    Thanks

Thank you, @Jeff Fiddelman for taking the lead.  I had one more suggestion for a quick-win enhancement to add.

Accessing Customer Maint/Inquiry, Invoice Inquiry from the More button, presents a filtered list of invoice history for the specific customer.  After selecting and  viewing an invoice from this list, the user is returned to generic Invoice History Inquiry and not the filtered list.  Please update this function to return the user to the filtered Invoice Inquiry list so they can easily make another selection to view.

    Hi fellow Mod Squad members.

I worked on a document (attached) to organize and reword the suggestions we have so far, for our next call.

Any ideas mentioned in the call that did not make this write-up were an oversight, nothing was left off deliberately, so please let me know

Section VI. (Misc.) Items 2 and 3 may need some additional clarification.

    Nice job, @Jeff Fiddelman!

    A couple items for clarity:

Section V, item 2 - Does the purchase clearing report need to be included?  Some firms may elect to have different PO clearing by product or whse, so maybe?

Do we need Section I Item 1 if we repeat this under section I item 3? Or should we expand section I item 1 to include defaults setup options for items a to e?

@Moira Goggin Questions:  Section V, item 2 - yes, PO Clearing report needs to subtotal by GL Account also for reconciling purposes.  But honestly, to be able to run it for a cut off date would be more helpful.

@Madeline Stefanou - that is so true.  It's the only month-end report (now the PM has a WIP report that is date-sensitive) that is supposed to tie back to a GL account that you can't run as of a specific date.  This isn't a quick win, but it would be a GIGANTIC win.

I thought of one more quick win - well, two actually, but it's the same fix.  And I am making as assumption as to how it works based on the response time.

When working with inventory and you get the Distribution screen, I THINK Sage is doing this - when you click on the lookup for the Lot/Serial/Tier, it is using the Primary Key of the Lot/Serial/Tier number + Item Code.  That's fine IF you entered a partial search in the lookup field first.  But if you leave it blank before clicking on the lookup, they should use the Primary Key of the Item Code.  That lookup takes forever and there is no good reason for it.

Ditto in PO Receipt HIstory Inquiry.  If you have filled in the PO number before going to the Receipt field and clicking on the lookup there, they should be using the Primary Key of the PO number.  If you partially fill in the Receipt, then they can use the Primary Key of Receipt + PO.  I noticed a drastic difference if I entered a "G" in the Receipt field before clicking the lookup as opposed to leaving it completely blank.

And one more, as I'm cursing - when you are creating calculations in VI, you put a space after the "OR", for example, but then when you double-click on a field, it slams it right up against the R and you have to manually move your mouse there and add the space back in.  EVERY.  SINGLE.  TIME.

Hi @Jeff Fiddelman. My initial contribution was not a thread in this post. I noticed they were not included in the document. They were posted as a separate thread.

One more from me as I sit here working on a payroll import.
    * Temp fields should allow custom field names (instead of Temp001, etc.) or a field for a description so you know (remember) what the temp field is for.

I have a few to add...
    1)  Need ability to do a Quote in Purchase Order (Request for Quote) from vendors.
    2)  Need PO Clearing Report to be Date Sensitive, for Balance Sheet reconciliation purposes.
    3)  Add an inventory physical count "freeze" date to the process.  (Capture the date when frozen"; then require the user to utilize the same date when updating the register.  (or just warn them the update date, does not match the freeze date, and give them a strong option to set it the freeze date).
    4)  Capture line item details for PO Receipt of Invoice, not just Receipt of Goods.
    5)  Copy customer and vendor phone numbers to the order entry screen, not just the fax number.

    Hi everyone

I have tried to collect all of the additional ideas that did not make it to the first write-up that we used in the meeting yesterday...
nothing was left off on purpose.  I don't think it is particularly fruitful to try to keep adding any new things at this point - perhaps each of us can keep our own list for the next round.

I made this one in spreadsheet form, with a column for you to rank them from 1-12, and attached it to this message.  When you are done, please add your name to the filename, and to cell C2, and post it back.

We will combine the two sets of results to generate the survey details.

Thank you again for your time on this project.

Hi - I have added the 12 items to the bottom of the spreadsheet.  As far as I can tell, Beth presented them  in ranked order.

I also added a column to show what section they should be presented in.

Bill, I am happy to help "fill in" the powerpoint if you can get a basic framework going....

Thank you, but don't we need these merged together? How does no. 1 in the additional set fit into the rankings of the previous original list? What subcategories should they belong to? What's the easy/hard ranking of the additional items? I believe this last one would be helpful for explaining our selection process, and I would include it on the presentation.

I did put a guide as to which section they belong in.

What do you think about my making a new/final version of the spreadsheet with everything in the proper section, and ask our mod-squad to re-rank in each section ?

Then we can compile a final version

This may be the simplest and best option...

    Thoughts ?

Thank you @Jeff Fiddelman, my bad, I missed that column.
How about the rest? For example:

    Section V
Original List's No 1: A/R invoice history inquiry should have a payments tab that functions in a manner similar to the one in A/P invoice history inquiry.
Additional List's No 1: Make the purchases clearing report date sensitive

Which is no 1 in a combined list? Shouldn't these additional items be weighed against the original items? Perhaps a final combined ranking is needed by the squad.

I also think the easy/hard info would be beneficial. Can you add that for the additional items?

    Hi Bill

That is what I was suggesting - to get to a single ranking of the combined list - I think it would be easier to ask the team to rank in each section again after I merge them together.

I also can put the scope of work, but I don't want that included in the powerpoint or sent to Sage.

Lets see what the others think ?

Ok - here is a new spreadsheet with the items from the 2nd round put into the correct section, some renumbering etc.

I have included the easy/medium/hard on the new items. (somewhat difficult to do, but better than nothing)

I did some formatting - the new items have a green section where you need to make an entry in the column for your name - please remember you need to look at your rankings above in the same section to re-rank the entire section with the new entries.

Tried to get this out fast, so sorry for any things is missed/messed up...

Once I get everyone's sheet back, I will tally them up, and send out a final sheet, which Bill and I will use to do the powerpoint. (Thanks Bill)

    Hello fellow Mod Squad members.

We now have a top 16 as per the spreadsheet attached.  I have hidden the other rows.

Please rank these 16 [only] from 1 to 16.  use the light blue cells under your name.

I will use these results to prepare the presentation in 3 sections:

    I.   Bottom of the sectional rankings, by section

II.  Almost the top 10  from 16 to 11

    III. Top 10 from 10 to 1.

I know this is "tough to do" but....

    Thx

    Madeline - thanks

Beth, it appears you have two number 2's and no number 3 - .... Which one would you like to be #3 and I will change it.

And this is how 2020 has been going - now I'm failing basic counting, even BEFORE getting past the number of fingers on one hand.
Make it in order - 2 then 3.
    THANK YOU!

    Hi

Can everyone meet tomorrow morning at 6:45 AM for breakfast ?

We are hoping to have the powerpoint done tonight , and would like
to discuss the session and divide up the presentation among everyone
    who wants to "present"

Bill - can we use your laptop for the presentation ?

I have time at lunch today or between the last session and dinner if anyone has anything before tomorrow AM

    Thx

    Jeff

Saturday 6:45 am is fine with me. Or grab me today before dinner. I'm flexible. No problem.

6:45a is a bit early for me (especially after Casino night), but I can do it if that's what everyone agrees to. I would prefer this afternoon after the last session.
Jeff, sure, you can use my laptop. It's a MacBook, but I have a HDMI connector with me, so it should be able to connect.

I wanted to give Moira time to review the presentation, and Bill time to do the powerpoint....

I am not sure these will be done by the end of sessions today...

we can do 7AM tomorrow ....

Hi Squad. Here's tomorrow's PowerPoint presentation for your review. Let us know of any glaring omissions or errors. This file is in 'Presentation' format so just download it and run it.

    Good catch, Beth.
This has been fixed. Here's the new last three (#6 was okay).

    3. Accounts Receivable Invoice History Inquiry should have a 'Payments' tab that functions in a manner similar to 'Checks' in Accounts Payable Invoice History Inquiry.
    2. Perpetual Accounts Receivable invoice and payment transaction history (vs 9999 days?)
    1. Date sensitive Purchase Order Purchases Clearing Report.

Upon review, I also removed the following from the list of "What didn't make it..." since no. 2 would essentially allow for this. Let me know if this is not correct.
    * Historical Customer Statements, A/R Aging, and A/R Trial Balance
