I've poked around but am unable to find much (if any) background on the candidates, reasons for wanting to serve on the board or any vision statement on how they would guide the group to future greatness.  Without any of this type of information, how am I to make an informed decision and get the most from my vote?  Being a board member requires strategic thinking, and a willingness to serve the membership all the while keeping an eye on the bottom line (just to name a few).

Currently, I know two people from the 2019 meeting, I have no information on the third at all.  Due to this lack of knowledge, I am reminded of my high school class election which was just a popularity contest.

Please be a little more transparent!  There are only three days left until the polls close.

So why is this just coming out now?  You are missing an important opportunity here.  Is this what we get for the 40% dues increase?  More Meh?

@Madeline Stefanou Thanks but no thanks...  As a co founder of 90 Minds (along with @Wayne Schulz), I spent 15 years bringing energy to the group.  I am sure you can find other members with my perspective.  I don't think it is unusual.  Just communicate who the nominees are and what they might bring to the board.  Also, explain why there was a 40% dues increase.

There is a larger issue here that has bugged me the entire time I was on the board: somehow it remains impossible to put organizational information on our website to help explain to the group key things like:

    • current Bylaws
    • Current Directors and term expirations
    • Current officers
    • Policies toward committee work and how to participate.

Anne posts some of this info from time to time, but they are impossible (for me, at least) to find later.

I am still mystified as why this basic organizational communication foundation is still not present.

Karen, during my time it was more a matter of "bigger fish to fry" (or gaters to kill) than anything else. When I first joined the BOD, we didn't even have a set of Bylaws ... it was the first project I took on, with a committee of 2 others. A royal PITA, but necessary.

Elections were quite different, but today's are far better -- a result of legitimate feedback from the membership and a BOD willing to change.

We originally used a different collaboration tool, and the transition to HL was more effort than we'd expected, sucking attention from many other possible areas. That selection and implementation was only made possible by amazing commitment and effort by Moira and several members -- it wouldn't have happened otherwise, and then we'd have been screwed because that original platform was discontinued. We didn't have much of a website before HL, and it then took a while (and some "learning") to get the current one -- which is far better. I guess that the HL migration project took up half of Moira's attention outside of MOTM for a year, which didn't leave much room for other development.

While I sounded a bit bitchy, I didn't mean to. We are MILES ahead of where we were when I rolled off the BOD 3 years ago. This is no accident.

The BOD is now larger and stronger than in the early days. It seems more functional. looking in from the outside. Anne really has pushed a lot of progress in only 3 years. I sometimes get the sense that some members don't understand how good things are now because they weren't all that engaged before. Their current engagement is because of Anne's skills, energy, and patience -- it is NOT easy to develop and maintain a productive relationship with a volunteer BOD of amateurs for a non-profit. Yet Anne has done this -- and we've all benefitted.

We have the BOD up on the website and it has been there for over two years: Board of Directors - 90 Minds

It is a great idea to have the Committees on the site we will get that going.  We always appreciate suggestions!

It is not customary to publish corporate documents and such on the public-facing website.  However, I will put this to the board for discussion after the conference.  Since we have a content library building for members, this may be a good place for these things.

In response to the increase of only firm dues.   After careful consideration and analysis of our operational costs, we determined that an increase in membership dues is essential to sustain the high-quality programs, events, and resources that our organization offers. This adjustment is crucial for maintaining and improving the overall member experience.  We increased the firm dues only and not the consultant due which remain the same.   I do not know of any associations that didn't have to increase dues in the past few years.  In addition to COVID, you had a staff transition and we have increased costs across the board.

The decision to raise dues is never taken lightly, and we understand the importance of fiscal responsibility. The increased dues will allow us to invest in updated technology, expand educational opportunities, and organize more engaging events that directly benefit our members.  We are also investing in membership benefits.  The additional funds will be allocated to enhance the value of your membership through improved programs, workshops, and events.

We understand that financial considerations are important, and we assure you that every effort has been made to keep the increase reasonable. The continued support of our members is vital for the success and growth of 90 Minds, and we are confident that the benefits gained from this adjustment will contribute to a stronger and more vibrant community.

And I hope that you will see and experience some of this at Meeting of the Minds in a few weeks!   Many people have been working very hard to bring this community another great conference. I look forward to connecting with everyone in person.

In the meantime, Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or require further clarification. We appreciate your understanding and continued commitment to the 90 Minds Community!

I apologize that I was unable to vote until today.  I have had a rather busy couple of weeks, but I won't bore anyone with the details.  As for the ballot, I find it hard to believe that intelligent people couldn't click on simple links to read the bios on the candidates.  I certainly noticed them.  I need to ask Doug, but I bet that Sprinkles saw those links. I appreciate the information on the three candidates because, honestly, I was NOT in on the vetting and selection process, so I went and read each bio and didn't just select the people I know.  This is a very important decision to help us move forward.

I have served on a number of volunteer boards over the past 40 years and believe in the quote from Jimmy Doolittle; "There is no muscle stronger than the heart of a volunteer."  These people put their names forward to volunteer to help this organization and I don't discount or belittle their motivations.  In fact, I applaud them.  It's a shame that we don't currently have room for all of them.

As to the question of the current board makeup and terms, etc.  @Anne Sawyer pointed out the Board Bios on the main 90 Minds page.  I suppose that we could/should list terms.  It might help to know whose terms are ending and who's rotating off for whatever reason.

Dues increases and fees are a totally different subject and should be presented to the board.  I don't want to pay more than the value I get, and I don't want anyone else to feel that way. But at the end of the day this is a community of people who have a common interest, and we have basic costs to provide services to everyone.  Unfortunately, those services cost and we need to make sure that we stay viable as a community.

Some documents should certainly be available to members, but we need to be careful just which documents are public facing.  Shortly after I joined the board, I shared documents that I have from other non-profit boards on which I have served.  It is my sincere hope that as we move forward, we will have many more policies and procedures codified so that everyone knows what to expect going forward.

Life isn't perfect but we should always strive to improve ourselves every day.  And that is what we should do as part of this community.

Although I have not been involved quite as long as Robert, Jeff and Wayne, I have been a 90Minds member for quite some time and have been re-energized by the recent changes to both the organization and the sale of my cloud practice.  I have been active in a number of organizations including the ITAlliance, Tech Collective, ASUG and Cloud Consultants Collective.   90Minds provides a tremendous value for the lowest cost of any of these organizations.  The value is driven primarily by the contributions of our members in discussion groups, participation on the committees and attending Meeting of the Minds.

I have also witnessed the change from a small group of collaborative individuals, through the formation of the structured organization, formalizing an administrator and hiring an Executive Director.   The road has not always been smooth or without conflict, but the trajectory has been continuously up (other than the COVID blip).  The journey has seen numerous turns and twists from Sage, the rise of the cloud and subscription, the reduction in margins and continuous consolidation and retirement of our members.

I believe we are at a point of inflection for 90 Minds.  Our traditional focus has been on the technical aspects of delivering Sage 100.  However, today less than 50% of our member firms are "Sage Select" and the diversity of products we represent continues to increase.  Many of our members have shifted their focus to delivering value through consulting in industries, technologies or process due to declining margins in software.  Conversely, with Sage's focus on Intacct, 90Minds and our Meeting of the Minds is the default conference for resellers of Sage 100.   With no Sage Summit, we may also have an opportunity to expand our services to Sage 100 Customers.  We could also reconsider expanding our focus to include Sage Intacct as 24% of our firms now represent that product.  We have many options to consider and the experience from prior expansion attempts (Acumatica and Sage 300) to inform and guide our efforts.

For those of you attending MOTM, please come by our member lounge to talk with members of the board or membership committee to let us know how we can provide more value to you, your firm, and/or your customers.   We are here to serve the membership and its interests.  We will listen intently and survey the entire membership to identify the areas of opportunity with the greatest interest.  If you are not going to the conference, please complete the upcoming membership survey and feel free to contact me or another board member who you might feel comfortable expressing your thoughts with.
