64 bit and Beanworks sync tool

  • 1.  64 bit and Beanworks sync tool

Client just received an email from Beanworks saying their sync tool is not compatible with 64 bit.  Does anyone know anything differently?

Is the 64 bit the windows operating system or the Sage install?  I know a 64 bit operating system is fine.

Can I just say that I dislike when publishers/ISVs send the notifications to the end-user and ignore the partner.  Then when the problem arises it is 90% of the time all the partner's fault because they "didn't read the notice".

And, no, I don't want to log into several different "partner portals" --- all with completely different UI and search --- just to find out if the publisher/ISV might have updated an article ( spoiler: Nearly 100% of these portals are one and done projects by some marketing intern ).

@Wayne Schulz - oh this wasn't proactive on their part - we were reaching out because we have an upgrade planned.

If Sage actually cared about anyone not a shareholder, they would keep a list of the ISVs they promote/seize commission from on compatibility issues like this, which would (1) keep partners and customers informed (2) give the ISVs a bigger incentive to keep up. Making a 64bit compilation should not be a big deal.

FYI, it looks like there is a general problem with BOI and 64-bit.

I wonder if this is the issue to my problem below.  Client is using Excel 64 bit encountering issues establishing an ODBC connection.  I am hoping the fix promised in July @Kevin Moyes link above will be for all supported versions of Sage

ODBC is completely different, and 64-bit ODBC queries have been fairly stable for us since v2014.

Maybe not THE issue but a clue.  The issue I have encountered is using 64 bit Excel with Sage v2021 32 bit.  Specifically, i have a Power Query extracting data from Sage.  I developed it on their server using a 32 bit Excel version.  The Power query performs like a champ EVERY time.  I give it to the users (Excel 64 bit) and the fun doesn't last.  An EXCEL [ProvideX][ODBC Driver]Internal Error message appears.  If the user is persistent (10-12 attempts), it starts.  Maybe reboot the PC, maybe restart Sage (no consistency.  I believe the issue is the Power Query.  The usual response is to just install 32 bit Excel.

You installed the 64-bit ODBC driver on those machines?  It is not done automatically.

    Yep.  Other queries work fine.
