4.5 - added a UDF to AR History Detail table. The update has been running for at least 1/2 hour. There is a pvwxwin32 task in Windows Task Manager that's using between 2 & 5% CPU time. Added a UDF to the same table yesterday, and it took maybe 5-10 min. to complete. The progress bar in the UDF update window has been sitting at about the halfway mark for most of the time. Wondering if it's really doing anything, and trying to figure out how much longer to wait before taking drastic action. If I kill this thing, will I be inflicting great bodily harm?

Is everyone out of the system?

How many records were in the detail table?

Before I killed it... I would check to see if you have other users in the system and get them out. Second I would go to the related process and up the priority on the process to see if it will process through for you. Then kill if you must...

I would imagine it would depend on the actual detail involved. It could be what was written yesterday did not have much detail associated with it. How large is the AR_HistoryDetail file?

@LarryBradford , don't know how to do that. Can you explain? @KathleenMatthews , the AR HistoryDetail file is 428000KB. @JeffSchwenk , 979000 records.

@LarryBradford, ok I upped the priority to High. Using more cpu time now. I'll wait a bit longer. If I end up killing it, should I rebuild AR history detail?

I am assuming you are looking at the process in the task manager under the processes tab. If so, right click on the process, choose set priority, a sub menu will appear, choose high. You will get a warning to do this with caution. Click ok. What this does is allocate more resources to the process and hopefully complete more quickly.

As I understand this process it is trying to append to the actual table for the appended fields and modify the data dictionaries. I do not believe rebuilding the files is necessary (somebody correct me if I am wrong - not that permission is needed). You would want to go back and add the UDF again (because you need it and it will force the dictionary build again).
