4.4 to 4.5 in place upgrade with SMI - client has full SMI implementation (with Designer) in their 4.4 environment. Has anyone done an upgrade where SMI is already installed? What steps are necessary to upgrade the SMI? And, no, I'm not certified on SMI - at this time.

I summon the power of certification!

Goody, I'm not at a disadvantage!

Not at all. I'm certified on SQL and CRM, too. Would I ever try to TOUCH either of those? Not on your life. This is the same thing, although I am reluctantly touching SMI.

So, I haven't found anything on the portal that addresses upgrading SMI. I guess you just install the latest download and hope for the best? Anybody done this yet?

I always hope for the best and expect the worst when working with Sage................

Does it matter? I thought SMI just used the ODBC.

If I'm lucky, when I run the 4.5 SMI, it will pick up the fact that there's a version already there and prompt to nicely and politely upgrade it without any issues. Any bets on whether or not it will work that smoothly?

Oh, that triggered a thought. I was trying to test the new thing that's coming out only on the 4.5 and I had 4.4 on my machine and I actually went through a hell of a time getting 4.5 loaded. SORT of remember something about it telling me I couldn't have both versions. I think I'd suggest exporting out all of the reports, just in case...

Many thanks to @AaronClark for assisting me with the SMI upgrade. After I installed the new version, I was getting a message ""invalid company code"" in License Manager after changing the paths to SMI and the Report Repository. It turned out to be a registration issue - there was a new serial number for 4.5.

I installed a new SMI on 4.5 yesterday. 10 minutes to do the install...35 minutes to get the darn thing registered so we could use it! Mostly time spent on phone with Sage. Registration still uses the old customer number but using the new serial number. Of course try to find the old number!

For most (but not all) of the registration keys for SMI, the old customer number is the part between the ""v"" and the underscore. The other thing @BarbaraGoldstein and I did was clean out the report repository folder (get rid of the alchemex.svd and other files). We couldn't even get the darn thing to launch until we did that. Then we performed the registration, and she was in business.
