  • 1.  2.9x Payroll Question

In Payroll 2.x, when you enter a paycycle, you have to select employees that are in that paycycle. In other words, if you are entering a bi-weekly paycycle, you can only enter employees who are marked as Bi-weekly in employee maintenance.

    Sounds simple enough.
My question to the group as we are nearing year end.

We have several clients that give out Annual bonus. In the past, we have marked the PayCycle as Annual and did not change anything in Employee Maintenance. This was done, so higher taxes would be coming out.

In 2.x, this is not a simple process anymore. We get messages from Sage, "You are processing payroll using an annual pay cycle. You cannot select an employee who is assigned a biweekly pay cycle"

    1) Were we doing this incorrectly in the past?
    2) If we have to change the pay cycle in employee maintenance, VI is going to have to be used to make the change, and then change back.
    3) Any other suggestions?

    Thank you
    Michael

In both the old version and the new version higher taxes on bonuses should have been calculated by flagging the earnings code as supplemental.  In the new payroll there's a tax profile called supplemental bonus wages.
