2020 W-2 and Payroll Tax Form Processing

  • 1.  2020 W-2 and Payroll Tax Form Processing

    Sage 100 Payroll v2.20.X.  Can the 4th quarter 2020 be closed and 1st quarter 2021 payroll entered and still successfully print 2020 W-2s, form 941 etc?

    I believe the answer is yes, but I am so used to making a backup copy at the year end it makes me a bit nervous to advise customers not to.

    Backups never hurt.  Yes, you are supposed to be able to but old habits die very hard.

    Regarding the Aatrix forms, I previewed the 941 form today.  The automatic upload was huge.  I would downloading it ASAP just to get the bulk of the download out of the way.  Don't wait until you really need to get it done.  Bad Sage things can happen to those who wait....

    Has SAGE Software released any 2020 W2/Year End processing documents that spell out the steps to follow in Payroll v2.20.x or Payroll v2.21.x?

    Been wondering the same.  They seem to be very silent about it this year.

    Timing wise I would expect the payroll update to be released by Friday based on prior years,  but I'm unclear whether that release needs to be installed before doing W-2s or not.

    I did note that Aatrix updated yesterday.

    Looks like payroll 2.21 is available for download now.

    However release notes don't mention anything about patches needed for W-2 (formerly known as IRDs) so I can only assume that if you install 2.21 you are ok.  Don't know about the prior release.

    They announced the release of payroll 2.21 today but it doesn't appear to include anything related to W2 processing.  Once of the fixes says "The new Offer of Coverage Codes and the new Health Coverage Code for Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) have been added for Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting."

    It is the 17th and they released a new PR today.  I really can't imagine having another release in a week that couldn't have been included in today's release.  I have enough clients to have to have this install before YE.  Don't double the workload!!!!!

    I just received clarification from Sage Development:

    1. Payroll 2.21.0 includes the changes to populate the Aatrix files.  It was left out of the documentation.  Install PR 2.21.0, update the Aatrix forms, and install the tax updates that will be released (I think one next week and the other the following week) and that's all that's needed for 2020 Payroll year-end.

    2. There is no 2020 IRD.  It is only needed for AP anymore and there are no changes needed for AP this year.  AP6001T still needs to be installed for the 1099-NEC utilities.
